The vegetation comprises mainly grassland on the open slopes and indigenous forest in the kloofs and gorges. A variety of game species, such as klipspringer, common duiker and mountain reedbuck, occur naturally in the area, and several other species have been introduced. The birdlife is varied. Location: North-eastern part of Mpumalanga; north-east of Lydenburg. Access: From Lydenburg take the R36 towards Ohrigstad and after about 30 km turn right onto the R533 to Pilgrim's Rest; the reserve turn-off is about 7 km further on, on the right. Accommodation: A camping site with basic ablution facilities (R5 per stand). Other facilities: Picnic sites; boating in small craft; boardsailing; fishing.
